Quarantined

OK, so maybe "quarantine" is a strong word.  So what would you call this?  The Department of Health called me this afternoon needing to do an interview regarding Cole's E-Coli.  Before we did the interview, she mentioned that he shouldn't be in daycare.  Well, he's been in daycare the whole time!  So she transferred me to someone who told me I had to pick Cole up immediately and that he was not to go back until he tested two negatives....which, she said, could take up to a month!  WHAT?!

He doesn't have any more symptoms and seems to be doing fine.  But apparently, even if he is showing no signs, he still may be "shedding" the organism....and that shedding can sometimes take up to a month.  So they are going to be dropping off some testing kits (I'm assuming it will be what I did at the doctor's office) and we will have to test him until two in a row come back negative.

Well, this just threw a kink into our lives!  Let's all say a prayer that we get two negatives right away!  I'll update later.

Poop & E Coli

Cole did a superb job with his Oma and Opa Wegner last weekend.  Despite Cole having bad diarrhea and terrible diaper rash, he was a trooper!  And so were Oma and Opa!! :)

Before I had Cole I could never imagine why all of my friends who had kids always talked about there kids' poop.  Seriously unnecessary right?  Well, now that I'm a mother, I guess that's just what you do.  You talk about poop.  And apparently in my case, you blog about it...

Since Cole's symptoms weren't clearing up and it had been over a week since they started, I decided to take him into the clinic to see if there was anything more we could do for him.  I decided it wouldn't hurt to bring in one of his poopy diapers just in case they could test it for something.  The doctor did say that it was unusual for diarrhea to last this long, but she didn't suspect anything other than just a bug that would run it's course.  I brought up the fact that I had a fresh sample for her if she thought they could test it.

She went to talk to the lab and the lab returned with two rubber gloves, a large tongue depressor and a bio hazard bag - this didn't look good for me.

Apparently they're policy is: you bring it in, you scoop it out.  Wow.  This really didn't look good for me.  But I suffered through and got a call from the doctor two days later...

E coli!  What?!  How in the world did he get that?  We still aren't sure how he got it, but it really could have been anything.  Luckily Cole is turning the corner and he hasn't had diarrhea for a couple of days.  Thanks goodness!!

Aren't you glad you read this post?  Come back again! :)

Another Night Away

Cole is going to be spending a night at his grandparents house this weekend.  Ben and I wanted to do some spring cleaning and thought that we could get more done and get it done quicker if Cole was able to be entertained somewhere other than where we were.  Ben's parents are only an hour away, so we asked them if they could watch Cole over night.

I'm nervous.  Not because I don't think he'll be in good hands...he definitely will be.  But his "stranger" anxiety has become more evident in the last couple of months.  Plus he's going to be in a different house that he's not used to.  And besides that, he hasn't been feeling up to par this week.  But, we've got to do it sometime, so no better time than the present right?

I was just talking to another new mom the other day at work and we were laughing about how our worries often amount to nothing.  As we are away, we picture coming home to a screaming child.  However, when we walk in the door, our child is perfectly content and hadn't even noticed we were gone.  I am praying that this weekend will be the case! :)

Thanks Oma and Opa Wegner for hanging out with your grandson this weekend!

Sometimes, you just have to try it....

There's a show called "Man vs. Food" on the Travel Channel that we were watching at a friends house the other night.  This would be one reason we don't have cable tv in our own house...we would watch shows like this and never get off our couch!

The premise of the show is that the host travels across the country in search of great places to eat and indulge.  I can't remember the specifics on where the host was or what restaurant it was at, but Ben insisted that we had to duplicate this particular burger that he was eating and try it for ourselves.  As bad as we knew it was for us, sometimes you just have to go for it....

It looks like any other burger on the grill, right??  Granted, the grilling of the bacon is a little weird, but, what is that on the right??  Hamburger buns with holes in the middle?  Oh no, ladies and gentleman.  Those are donuts............yup.  I can feel my arteries clogging as I type.  I can feel the fat just builidng, but you know...the burger was quite tasty on a donut.

Like I said, sometimes, you just have to try it....

Cole's First Haircut

We've been meaning to get Cole's haircut for some time. He was born with a lot of hair, lost most of it and now has hair that's turned into a shaggy mess! I think it really set in that I needed to get his hair cut when a lady at the park, mistook Cole for a girl. And then, when we took this Easter shot...

we figured it was definitely time.

I didn't want to take him to a cheapo place for fear that they wouldn't know how to handle an infant, soon-to-be-toddler. We also didn't want to pay $30 bucks for what would probably end up being a total of 5 scissor cuts. We ended up taking him to a place across the way from us that is specifically designed for kids. It was a little more than we wanted to spend, but we found a coupon and figured, you only get your first haircut once, right?

Being the worrying mother that I am, we got there and I suggested he sit on my lap because I was sure he would scream if he didn't. But the hair dresser said that we should just try him in his own chair first to see how he would do. And he did wonderfully!

He wasn't scared at all and never shed one tear! I think he was too enthralled with the flat screen TV that was placed on the counter in front of him that was playing Finding Nemo! He was such a big boy and couldn't have done a better job.

I love you little man, but this growing up must slow down!!!

Finished Product

Ladies and gentleman...we have carpet....and we love it!

A Bit of Everything

Well hello there! Spring has sprung and I thought I would update the look of the blog a little bit. It's kind of addicting to mess around with and I'm sure it will change again in the near future.

For those of you in suspense on how the night away from Cole went, well, it was just fine. I had a bunch of fun with my girls and Cole and Ben did a great job while I was away. The next test: Cole goes on an overnight to his Grandma and Grandpa Wegner's house next weekend! What will Ben and I be doing you may ask? Why nothing other than spring cleaning! What, did you think we'd be having a romantic get-a-way?!

The weather has been amazing so far this spring. We've been able to get outside a bit and it's been fun watching Cole discover grass and rocks! Here are a couple pics of us at the local park - it was a bit chilly in the wind, hence Cole's thick hat...

We also had a nice Easter weekend. Both Ben and I worked on Friday, but it was my day to work from home. It worked out well because the night before, Cole threw up all over right before I put him down for the night. So I kept him home with me. He was fine, so not sure what it was that upset his stomach so terribly. We had fun being home together. I could have just died laughing though. I got him up from his nap and changed his diaper. Because he is SOO squirmy on the changing table I just try to get his diaper on and pants on before he can squirm off the table. So I put him down and realized this....

My little mer-man! :)

We bought a bike trailer on Saturday morning, so we are really looking forward to getting out on our bikes with the little man in tow. And then Saturday afternoon we hung out with our good friends Corey, Lexi and their little boys Parker and Gavin. We had so much fun!

We decided to go to a Saturday night Easter service so we could do our traveling in the morning to the Wegner's. Cole was the most handsome boy (besides Ben of course!) in the building!

We drove to Ben's parents' house in New Richmond, WI for Easter Sunday. It was a nice time and the weather turned out to be beautiful so we were able to get outside for a bit. It makes you wonder what we ever did during holidays past because all we do now is sit around and watch Cole! :)

Hope everyone had a lovely Easter weekend!!
