Girls' Night Out!

Tomorrow night I will be spending my first night away from Cole! I'm super excited to get together with some great girl friends and am also excited about the possibility of sleeping in past 6am! Ben keeps telling me that I'll probably wake up anyway, which could definitely happen. But the fact that I won't HAVE to get up is amazing!

I'm not as nervous as I thought I would be, partly because I know Ben is the one taking care of Cole and Cole knows Ben and is used to him. Small steps right?

But don't feel bad for Ben! My friend's husband and child are coming over to our house to have a boys' night. Lots of video games and junk food to be had!

Off topic: Carpet update! Yes, it's been about a month and we are still without carpet! At this point it's hard to picture something there other than cement. Apparently (I won't believe it until I hear anything for sure) our carpet is in transit on it's way to the installers and we should expect a call this weekend. I'm definitely not counting on it though.

Ok, off to clean the bathroom!

Good news and bad news

The good news is that our property taxes have gone down every year since we moved into our place almost six years ago.

The bad news is our house is worth 35% less than it was when we bought it.

I know we are not alone and many people have it worse, but it just hits you when you get your tax statement from the city and see what they think your place is worth.

Picture Update

And here are some pictures that I promised you!

This was from the other week when Cole was just starting to pull himself up. I look over and the top half of his body was in the toy basket and his feet were up in the air. Being the "Safety 1st" mom that I am....I grabbed the camera instead of helping him! :)

When I have to make dinner after getting home from work, I let Cole dig in the cupboard with all the baggies and paper plates...it was a mess to clean up, but it kept him occupied. Unfortunately, he figured out he could open our other cupboards and we had to put the safety latches on.

Our nickname, one of them anyway, for Cole is "Puppy" for a few different reasons. One, he sounds like a whimpering puppy sometimes when he gets whiny. And two, would be the picture above. He LOVES to suck on a washcloth when he's in the tub so I give him a separate one every time. But he just hangs it out of his mouth like a puppy while he's playing. Pretty cute...at least to us.

I know our kid is a big kid. He weighed 21 lbs at his 9 month check up and was 30 inches long....but this picture really makes him look HUGE! Gotta love some of that baby chubb though!

And can you see the new additions to his smile? Yes, he now has 2 teeth sprouting on the bottom. Nothing on the top yet though. We've also been trying to get him used to finger food. He's been doing a lot better lately, but originally he actually gagged and threw up a couple of times. A little unsettling. But he's doing much better now.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

No Pic Update....

Unfortunately, I won't be posting any pictures. So this is probably where you'll stop reading. Ben has class tonight and takes the laptop, which has all of our pictures on it. And when Ben's at class, I think to blog. So no pics, but you get to read my rambling! How exciting huh?

A lot has happened since I last posted (it always does). So, you know how we had our floor installed? Well, we then had it un-installed and then reinstalled again. Follow? Yeah, it was not fun. There was a leak in our dishwasher and last Friday Ben noticed that the floor was warping. We were pretty bummed because we thought we were going to have to drop some cash on a new dishwasher. But our trusty handy man came to the rescue and fixed the dishwasher and replaced the floor that was damaged. Let's hope this is it for that part of the flooring. Now we still wait for the carpet...we're hoping before April. In the meantime we are enjoying the cement floor...actually we are enjoying not having to take our shoes off when we walk in the door! :)

I finally went to the doctor after having a cold/cough for a month. I know, I know. But I just hate going to the doctor and paying money to have them tell me to drink lots of water and get plenty of rest. Well, I was diagnosed with a sinus infection, so at least I got some drugs out of the deal.

Other than that, Cole has been staying healthy. I did take him in to the clinic on Sunday for fear that his pink eye was coming back. Well, after waiting over an hour in the exam room (they literally forgot about us and were getting ready to leave for the night) the doctor said he didn't have pink eye. Thanks.

I will try and post some pictures soon. I'm sure I can scrounge up a few of Cole looking adorable. :) It's 7:45pm and I really feel like just going to bed...I'm old.

Early Lunch...Very Early

One of the perks about working from home is the flexibility I have. The flexibility also comes in great part due to my extremely flexible boss! It's just after 8am and I am already taking my "lunch break". No, I'm not eating my turkey sandwich just quite yet, but I am drinking a new tea fusion drink from Caribou and it's quite good. No, I'm just hanging out at Tires Plus getting some new tires on the van and an oil change. All in a days work people. All in a days work.

On a separate note, who's getting excited for the Oscars on Sunday?? I know not many people get too excited over the awards, but in our house we look forward to it starting from last year's awards ceremony. Every year, our wonderful friends Dan and Erin, host an Oscar party and we have SO much fun. Everyone fills out a ballot and there are prizes too! And of course lost of good food and lots of fun making snarky comments on the lovely or not so lovely apparel of the rich and the famous. So here's to Oscar! And to our friends Dan and Erin for hosting such a great party every year.

Flooring, Phase 1: Complete

Although I don't tend to brag about myself very often, I must say this weekend would not have happened without my mad organizational skills...and of course the generosity of our friends and family!

Whew! What a weekend! I started the weekend by taking Cole to his 9 month check up. Everything was well and we found out he's going to be tall...ok, we pretty much knew that from the beginning, but everyone loves to point it out everytime he has a doctor's appointment. He weighs 21 lbs (61%) and is 30 inches long (92%). And lucky for Cole, no shots! Although he did have a pin prick to check lead levels, but didn't shed a tear...he's good like that.

After the appointment, our friend and Blaine neighbor Matt, graciously allowed our family to crash at his place for the night while the crew got to work on the demo of our floors. We had fun playing Buck Hunter (Ben's favorite of course) and learned a new card game called "Hand and Foot". We didn't get much sleep, but we had a place to sleep and that's all that mattered!

Saturday morning we made a quick dash to Rosedale Mall to meet up with my BFF Lindsey and her family for lunch. We came back to Matt's for Cole's nap, while Matt and Ben went bowling for a work function. After bowling, Ben returns to get Cole and I and we're off to meet Ben's cousin and her family for a quick dinner while they were visiting from Chicago....tired yet? Us too! :)

We managed to sleep at our house on Saturday night, but were up bright and early to make sure we were out of the house before the crew came to finish the floors. So off we go at 8am to visit Ben's folks in New Richmond. Fortunately it was a very relaxing time. But oh, it doesn't end there! We then traveled to Hugo to have dinner with great friends and finally, after 10pm on Sunday, we were home. And the floors look awesome! Check out the before...

And the after!!

Next phase: Carpet. Unfortunately, the carpet that we ordered is out of stock. So for the next month we have the challenge of keeping a very active crawler out of the living room. I'll post more as we put our house back together.
